How can I keep my bike from overheating at a race? I am using Cool Ice anti freeze. What else can I do?

You will need to ride it at a good pace to keep the air flowing. I rode an 09 RMZ450 for two races last year and it did like to puke coolant and stall from overheating in the mud.

Get an RLR catch tank for the coolant. You can get a fan kit as well which would help for sure. Just go over to Thumpertalk and do a search in the kawi forum. I'm sure someone has mounted one up for tight woods riding...

If it's not fuel injected then you could also make sure you are not too lean on the jetting.

Or have Ranger Charlie ride it for you. Very Happy

450 to much for me in the woods! I would be up a tree in a heartbeat!

But you do have some good advice there, a catch bottle and Engine Ice should help out.

My YZ 450 use to do the same thing in the slow tight stuff. A couple option are: Pit posse sells a radiator cap that is a higher bar than the stock ones, this will raise your boiling point of the coolant a little, It is a must to rig up a catch tank some how to the bike, search turkey baster mod on thumper talk for ideas, I think motion pro sells a resevoir kit in the thumper talk parts store it mount to your forks behind the front number plate, See if you can look at a klxr model I am sure it has a overflow tank on it you may be able to modify, I used one from a WR for my YZ. You can always go with fluidyne radiators, they are epensive but work excellent and will cure all overheating problems, maybe a good used set off ebay. I scored a set for mine from a vchss rider that switched brand of bikes. I was thinking about a fan but then you may also have to change to a lighting coil in order to run the fan. I run 75% water with 25% antifrezze and add water wetter to the mix. This is pretty much equal to engine ice but you can make your own way cheaper.

One other thing I forgot is your riding style in the slow stuff, slipping the clutch will cause excessive heat also making the bike overheat, that is where the Rekluse comes in handy.

How about before sending someone to buy stuff from Thumpertalk, you send them to series supporting dealers to buy those items.

CrazyTed's Racing carries instock the higher pressure cap from Pit Posse and the overflow bottle setup from RLR Products. It was designed for use on KTM's but folks are adapting it to other bikes.

What exactly will a higher pressure cap do for your bike? are there any downsides for them as well. Thanks...

Sonny;

A liquid in a higher pressure environment will have a higher boiling point (temperature at which it boils).

Putting a radiator cap on that has a higher pressure effectively increases the pressure within the radiator, thereby increasing the temperature at which the coolant will boil.

I use one of the motion pro catch tanks on my Honda. It took a little time to mount because of my cdi box on my fork tubes, so i ran the overflow line under the tank and through to the air box. I had just enough space for the bottle and i ran the overflow hose out of the back by the number plate and you don't even know its there . I don't know how much space is in a Kawi airbox but its pretty easy way to do it, just am idea.
